Cleaning Tip - Hard Water on Windows

You know that hard water that accumulates on the outside of your windows? That can really diminish the light that comes through, especially in basements. Here is the most simple way that I know of, on how to clean them quickly and with little mess. Then you can enjoy the beautiful sunshine outside this summer from the cool comfort of inside your home. :)

What you need:

- Flat Razor blade (the kind in the protective handles) - Paper towels - Microfiber cloth - Windex (or other window cleaner of your choice - (Optional) Lime cleaner & plastic scrubber

Step 1

CAREFULLY take the razor and lay it against the window at a 45 degree angle. *This is important, because if you don't you can scratch or damage the glass.* Slowly, using short strokes, scrape around the edge of the window being careful to not nick the window casings. *It's even more important to go slowly and with control so that you don't injure yourself with the blade.* When the edges are scraped clean, begin working on the inside area. This should only be done by people who are responsible with sharp tools. I can't stress enough the importance of being safe during this process. Wipe off the dust when finished, and go to the next step.

Step 2

As you'll notice, most of the scale comes off by only using the razor blade, but if there is still scale remaining, you can do one of two things; either you can go back over the areas with the blade, or you can use the lime cleaner and a plastic scrubber to get the remaining scale.

Step 3

Use the window cleaner to give it a final clean & shine.

There might be other things you can do to get scale off your windows, but this is what I've found to be the fastest & cleanest way to get the job done. (This window took me only 20 min.) Let me know if you have any other tips for this! In the meantime, enjoy your view, and don't forget to do this process when you are getting ready to sell. Your buyers will not only appreciate your views, but will also recognize how well kept your home really is! Be safe, and enjoy! :D
